How do I download a map offline?

Pre-download the area of a hunt to keep the map even when there is no signal on the day. The base map and some layers are saved on your phone. This is for the hunt organiser, the administrator or manager of the hunting ground, and members with the **Edit all events** permission. It works only for a hunt linked to a hunting ground. A meeting point (the hunt's or, failing that, the hunting ground's) or a hunting ground boundary is also required. ## On mobile This route is available from version 4.2.5 of the app. 1. Open the hunt, tap **Manage**, "Map & hunting ground" section, then **Map**. 2. At the top of the screen, tap the download icon (a downward arrow in a circle). The "Offline map" screen opens. 3. Mes Chasses chooses the area automatically and displays it: "Hunting ground boundary" or "Meeting point". A satellite preview shows the extent, green outline for the hunting area, orange dashed line for the downloaded extent. 4. If needed, expand with the **Enlarge the downloaded area** slider, from "Exact area" to +5 km. 5. Tap **Prepare the map**, then wait. Progress shows "Layers (hedges, crops, water)...", "Base map (map)...", then "Base map (satellite)...". 6. The message "Area ready. Offline storage: ~X MB." appears when it is done. To redo the download later, come back to this screen: the button then shows **Download the area again**. ### Delete the area of a hunt 1. Open the hunt, tap **Manage**, "Map & hunting ground" section, then **Map**. 2. Tap the download icon. The "Offline map" screen opens. 3. Tap **Delete offline map**. This button appears only once the map is downloaded, and not during preparation. The base maps of this hunt are deleted. The layers saved on your phone are also all cleared, for all your hunts: hedges, crops, water bodies, safety layers (buildings, roads) and protected areas. ### Delete all offline maps 1. **Account** tab, "Account" section, then **Account & security**. 2. "Phone" section, tap **Storage**. 3. Tap **Delete offline maps**. This button is greyed out while no map is downloaded. 4. The base maps (map and satellite) of all your hunts are deleted. Hunting ground maps downloaded with the **Offline** button on a hunting ground's stands map are deleted too. 5. The layers saved on your phone remain: hedges, crops, water bodies, safety layers (buildings, roads) and protected areas. Only **Delete offline map**, on the hunt screen, clears them. ## On the web The offline map exists only on the mobile app. ## Good to know - The area is chosen automatically: the hunting ground boundary if drawn, reduced to a maximum of 50 km²; otherwise a circle with a 5 km radius around the hunt's meeting point or, failing that, the hunting ground's. The slider adds 500 m steps on top. - The downloaded map is for your device only. Other participants don't receive it. - On the day, the base map (map and satellite) stays available without signal in the downloaded area, from zoom level 12 to level 16. - The hedges, crops and water bodies layers are kept for a limited time: 14 days for water, 30 days for hedges, 1 year for crops. After that, the layer isn't shown without signal. So download the area shortly before the hunt. **Download the area again** recreates the map and satellite base layers, but only re-downloads layers whose time has expired. - **Prepare the map** downloads only hedges, crops and water bodies. Safety layers (buildings, roads) and protected areas are saved on the phone only after being displayed once with signal. Without that, those layers require signal. - During a live hunt, your positions are saved on your phone and sent when signal returns. The positions shown are for information only, and the decision to shoot remains the shooter's. ## If something goes wrong - "No area defined. First enter a meeting point ('Meeting point' section) or draw the hunting ground boundary.": neither the hunt nor its hunting ground has a meeting point, and the hunting ground boundary hasn't been drawn. In the "Participants" section of **Manage**, the row is called **Meeting point**. - "Error during preparation. Check your connection and try again.": the download failed. Check your connection, then restart the preparation. - "The download is slow": the satellite part is large. Reduce the area with the slider. - "I don't see the Delete offline map button": the hunt map isn't yet downloaded, or a preparation is in progress.
