How do I organise the drives of a hunt?

Last updated
A day of hunting is often split into several driven hunts: the drives. For each one, you reuse a drive prepared on the hunting ground or you put together a free drive on the spot. Each drive of the day has its stands, its placed hunters and, if you want, its name, its instructions and its map for the day. A hunt has 1 to 5 drives. Adding, removing or reordering drives requires being able to edit the hunt. Picking the hunting ground drive for a drive of the day, setting its details, naming and ordering its stands is also open to anyone with the "Assign stands" right. Drives of the day only exist for a hunt linked to a hunting ground: an immediate hunt has none. ## On mobile Available from version 4.2.6 of the app. ### Pick the drives of the day The "Which drives today?" screen opens on first use from version 4.2.9 of the app. In an older version, a "How do I place the hunters?" step comes first. 1. Open the hunt, tap **Manage**, then **Hunter placement** ("Map & hunting ground" section). 2. The first time, the "Which drives today?" screen opens. Tap the hunting ground drives in the order they will run on the day: each one takes a number. Tap again to remove it. 3. No drive prepared? Tap **Add a free drive**. 4. Tap **Continue with 2 drives** (the number follows your choice). If you remove a drive where hunters were placed, the app asks "Remove these drives?" before deleting their assignments. The rest of the path (placing the hunters) is covered in [How do I place hunters with the guided path?](article:how-do-i-place-hunters-with-the-guided-path). ### Set a drive in detail 1. Open the hunt, tap **Manage**, then **Hunter placement**. 2. On the summary, tap the ··· menu at the top right, then **Prepare the drives**. 3. The "Drives of the day" screen lists one row per drive, with a summary ("3 stands · 2 hunters placed · Woods map"). Tap a drive to open its card. 4. On the card, tap the row to set: - **Drive map**: the map of this drive for the day; - **Drive stands**: drag a stand by its handle to change the order, or tap **Edit** to give it a name in the drive or remove it; - **Details for the day**: the name, instructions and map of this drive; - **Hunting ground drive**: a hunting ground drive, or **Free drive**. When a drive has no stand picked, the banner "No stand chosen for this drive" offers **Prepare the drive**, which opens its card. ### Add a stand to a drive On mobile, a stand enters a drive when you place a hunter on it. 1. Open the hunt, tap **Manage**, then **Hunter placement**. 2. On the summary, tap the drive to adjust. 3. Tap a hunter to pick their stand. 4. In the list, tap a stand: - if the drive already has stands, the list shows them first, then the "Other hunting ground stands" section: tap a stand from this section; - if the drive has no stand yet, the list goes straight to the hunting ground stands, without a section: tap one. The hunter is placed on this stand, and the stand is added to the drive. When all the hunting ground stands are already in the drive, the "Other hunting ground stands" section doesn't appear. ### Add, move or remove a drive 1. Open the hunt, tap **Manage**, then **Hunter placement**. 2. On the summary, tap the ··· menu at the top right, then **Prepare the drives**. 3. To add an empty drive at the end, tap **Add a drive**, at the bottom. 4. To move or remove a drive, open its card, tap the ··· menu at the top right, then **Move up**, **Move down** or **Remove the drive**. With the "Manage stands" right, the same menu also offers **Copy back to "Black Wood"** or **Save as a hunting ground drive**. ## On the web ### Open the stand management 1. Open your hunting ground, **Hunts** menu, then click the hunt. 2. In the hunt menu, click **Stand management**. 3. Four tabs follow at the top: **1. Drives**, **Groups**, **2. Selection** and **3. Allocation**. ### Put the day together (1. Drives tab) 1. Each drive has its row, with its title ("Drive 2 · Plain") and a summary. In the **Hunting ground drive** list, pick a hunting ground drive or **Free drive**. 2. Click **Add a drive** to add an empty one at the end. 3. Use the **Move up** and **Move down** arrows to change the order, and the bin icon for **Remove the drive**. 4. Click **Details for the day** to fill in **Drive name for this day**, **Instructions** and **Drive map**. Leave the name empty to keep "Drive 2". 5. Click **Continue to selection**. If the day has shooting lines or groups, the **Groups** tab opens first. ### Pick the stands for each drive (2. Selection tab) 1. Pick the drive's tab. 2. On the map, click a stand to add it to the drive or remove it. **Tick all** and **Untick all** ask for confirmation. 3. In the list on the right, drag the stands to set the order and fill in the name of each stand in the drive. 4. Below the list, the **Lines** section lets you **Draw a line** for this hunt only (see [How do I place shooting lines?](article:how-do-i-place-shooting-lines)). To the right of the drive tabs, a **Copy back to "Black Wood"** or **Save as a hunting ground drive** button appears, depending on the drive. ### Change the map of a drive (3. Allocation tab) 1. Pick the drive's tab. 2. Use the "Drive map:" choice, above the stand list. 3. Click **View the drive map** to open it. The summary of this tab offers **Summary PDF**, **Lines recap (PDF)** and **Send the stands**. ## Hunting ground drive or free drive Picking a hunting ground drive copies its content into the hunt: name, instructions, map, stands with their names and order, and shooting lines. The hunt then stands on its own: if the hunting ground drive changes later, this hunt doesn't move, unless you decide so (see [What happens when I edit a drive already in use?](article:what-happens-when-i-edit-a-drive-already-in-use)). If the drive of the day already had stands, the app asks "Use "Black Wood"?". Stands not in the new drive are removed, along with the hunters who were placed there, then listed: "Hunter to place again: …". Hunters placed on a stand that remains don't move. Switching from a hunting ground drive to a free drive asks for confirmation ("Switch to a free drive?"): the drive keeps its stands, their names, its placed hunters and its map, but loses its name and its instructions for the day. ## Copy back to the hunting ground These two actions also require the "Manage stands" right. - **Copy back to "Black Wood"** appears when the drive copies an active hunting ground drive. The hunting ground drive takes on the stands, their names and order, the lines, the name, instructions and map of this day. Other hunts don't change, but the app may offer to update them. - **Save as a hunting ground drive** appears for a free drive, or one whose original hunting ground drive no longer exists. It asks for a name ("Hunting ground drive name") and creates a drive with this content. A map specific to the hunt never passes across to the hunting ground. ## The name of a stand in the drive That is the name the hunter sees. For the Low Oak stand, the Black Wood drive can show 3 and the Plain drive 12. It appears as "Stand 3 · Low Oak" in "My stand" on mobile, in "My stands" on the web, in the stands email, in the summary PDF and during the live hunt. Without a name in the drive, the stand's own name appears instead. Two drives on the same day can each have their own "Stand 1". ## What hunters see Confirmed participants find their stands under the title of their drive. The instructions for their drives sit with the safety instructions, under "Safety and instructions": - on the web, in the inset of the hunt's page; - on mobile, **Information** tab, "Organisation" section. Available from version 4.2.9 of the app. In an older version, they sit in the **My stand** tab. A hunter placed nowhere sees the instructions for every drive of the day. The instructions aren't included in the stands email. ## Good to know - Once the hunt has started, has ended or has been cancelled, the order and number of drives can no longer change. - The last remaining drive can't be removed. Removing a drive removes its stands and placed hunters, and renumbers the following ones. - An archived hunting ground drive still appears with the note "(archived)": the drive of the day keeps its copy. - The mobile path accepts each hunting ground drive only once per day. From a drive's card (mobile) or row (web), you can reuse the same one twice if you go through the same stands again. - On the web, **Stand management** is open to the hunt organiser and to the roles that have the "Assign stands" right. The organiser is the hunt's creator, the hunting ground owner or a manager, or a role that has the "Edit all events" right. ## Troubleshooting - "I don't see Stand management in the hunt menu, on the web": you are neither the hunt organiser nor a holder of the "Assign stands" right. Ask the hunting ground administrator. - "I don't see Hunter placement": the hunt isn't linked to a hunting ground, or you can neither edit the hunt nor assign stands. - "Add a drive does not appear": you can't edit the hunt. The button is greyed out when the hunt has started, has ended or has been cancelled, or when it already has 5 drives. - "Only hunt organisers can edit the drives of the day.": your account can view the day but not edit it. - "The Copy back to… button does not appear": the "Manage stands" right is missing, or the hunting ground drive is archived. Reactivate it first. - "Some stand names are not saved. Correct them or reload the stand list, then try again.": a name you entered wasn't accepted. Correct it before copying back or saving. - "The day could not be loaded. Check the connection and try again.": tap or click **Try again**. Nothing changes until the day is read. - "The maps could not be loaded. The drive map stays unchanged.": the map list couldn't be read. The map choice is locked on your current map, and nothing changes. Tap or click **Try again**. ## See also - [How do I place hunters with the guided path?](article:how-do-i-place-hunters-with-the-guided-path) - [How do I place shooting lines?](article:how-do-i-place-shooting-lines) - [How do I create your hunting ground's drives?](article:how-do-i-create-drives-for-my-hunting-ground) - [How do I view a drive's map?](article:how-do-i-view-the-map-of-a-drive)
