How do I place hunters with the guided path?

Last updated
On the mobile app, placing hunters goes through a few steps, one after the other: the drives of the day, the groups of the day when the hunt has them, the choice between automatic and manual placement, placement drive by drive, then a summary to confirm. Each action is saved straight away, except the choice of drives of the day, which is saved when you tap the step button, **Continue with 2 drives** for example. You can leave partway through and resume later. The path is reserved for hunt organisers and for people with the "Assign stands" right, on a hunt linked to a hunting ground. This path matches version 4.2.9 of the app. In an older version, a "How to place hunters?" step is added and shooting lines don't appear. ## On mobile ### Open the path 1. Open the hunt, tap **Manage**. 2. In the "Map & hunting ground" section, tap **Hunter placement**. The first time, the path starts at the drives of the day. After that, you land straight on the summary. To go back a step, use the back arrow at the top left or the back gesture. With only the "Assign stands" right, the **Manage** menu offers **Hunter placement** alone. ### Pick the drives of the day 1. On "Which drives today?", tap the hunting ground drives in the order they will run on the day. Each one takes a number. Tap it again to remove it. 2. No drive prepared? Tap **Add a free drive**. Its stands will be picked at placement time, from all the hunting ground's stands. 3. Tap **Continue with 2 drives** (the number follows your choice). A hunt has at most 5 drives. If you remove a drive where hunters were placed, the app asks "Remove these drives?" before deleting their assignments. The **+** at the top of the screen creates a hunting ground drive without leaving the path: on return, it is added to the day. It is open to the administrators and managers of the hunting ground, and to people with the "Manage stands" right. It only appears if the hunt hasn't started and you have the right to edit it. The list stays read-only if the hunt has started, has ended or been cancelled, or if you don't have the right to edit the hunt (for example with only the "Assign stands" right). The **Continue with 2 drives** button then moves to the next step without changing anything. ### Build the groups of the day This step appears when a drive of the day has a shooting line, or when a group already exists. Otherwise, the path skips it. 1. Tap **+ Add a group**, then give it a name, a leader and a colour. 2. To put a hunter in a group, tap **Group** on their row. 3. Tap **Distribute the rest at random** to spread the remaining hunters among the groups. 4. Tap **Continue**. The details (colours, numbers, missing lines) sit in [How do I place shooting lines?](article:how-do-i-place-shooting-lines). ### Choose who places the hunters The "Who places the hunters?" screen reminds you how many hunters have confirmed their attendance. Tap one of the two choices: - **Automatic**: each group first takes the line of its colour, then the hunters are spread at random across the stands, drive by drive. You then land on the summary. - **Manual**: the groups still take the line of their colour, then you place each hunter, drive by drive. In automatic mode, a prepared drive uses its own stands, and a drive with no stand picked uses the hunting ground's. Hunters already placed don't move. If stands are missing, the extra hunters stay to be placed. ### Place the hunters, drive by drive 1. The header shows where you are ("Drive 1 of 3"). A banner counts the hunters still to place: they sit at the top, with the placed hunters below. 2. Tap a hunter to pick their stand, in the **List** or **Map** tab. 3. To place the remaining hunters on this drive at random, tap the distribution icon at the top of the screen. 4. Tap **Continue · drive 2** to move to the next drive, or **View the summary** on the last one. You can move on even if hunters are still to be placed. If the drive has lines, the "Lines" section shows them with their size ("540 m · about 10 shooters") and the group holding them. Tap **Change group** to pick who holds a line, or **View the drive map** to touch a line on the map. **Place the groups on their line** restores the colour-based assignment on the empty lines. ### Confirm and notify the hunters 1. On the summary, check each drive: "Everyone is placed" or the number still to place, the lines held ("2 lines held out of 3"), the unsuitable stands. Tap a drive to adjust it, then **Back to the summary**. 2. Tap **Confirm the placement**. Nothing is sent yet. 3. Tap **Notify the hunters**. After the first send, the button becomes **Resend the stands to the hunters**. Each placed hunter gets an email with their place, stand or line, and a link to see it on the map. A hunter whose group holds no line is notified too: their message carries an "All day" entry, with their group and leader. After the first send, if you also sent by SMS or WhatsApp, **View the last send** appears below the list. ### Also send by SMS or WhatsApp When sending by SMS or WhatsApp is open, the "Send the stands" sheet offers an "Also send by SMS or WhatsApp" switch ("… by SMS" or "… by WhatsApp" if only one channel is open), with its cost and your balance. It appears when these three conditions are met: - you are an administrator or manager, or you hold the "Manage the message balance" right; - the hunting ground isn't a demo hunting ground; - at least one hunter can receive a WhatsApp or SMS message. Without one of them, the sheet only offers sending by email. ### When the message balance doesn't cover every send On the "Send the stands" sheet, the "Also send by SMS or WhatsApp" switch isn't turned on by default when the message balance doesn't cover every send. Once turned on, the sheet shows "Insufficient balance, 3 of 5 covered." (the numbers follow your send). To top up: [How do I top up my hunting ground's message balance?](article:how-do-i-top-up-my-hunting-grounds-message-balance). - If the balance covers some of the hunters: the **Send** button becomes **Send to those covered (3)**, with **Top up on the website** below. The hunters not covered get their stand by email. - If the balance covers no hunter: the only button is **Top up on the website**, and no email goes out while the switch stays on. To send the stands by email only, turn the switch off: the **Send** button comes back. ## On the web The guided path only exists on the mobile app. On the web, placement goes through the **Stand management** screen of the hunt, with its **1. Drives**, **Groups**, **2. Selection** and **3. Allocation** tabs: see [How do I organise the drives of a hunt?](article:how-do-i-organise-the-drives-of-a-hunt). ## What the stand picker shows The **List** tab gives markers for each stand: - from the 2nd drive onwards, the distance as the crow flies from the last stand the hunter occupies on a previous drive, and the nearest free stand, marked "Nearest"; - "Accessible" on accessible stands. For a hunter with reduced mobility, these stands move to the top and the others are marked "Not accessible (reduced mobility)"; - the stand's ideal weapon: in green if it matches the hunter's, in orange otherwise, with no colour if the hunter's weapon isn't entered or if they are "Unarmed". Shotgun and buckshot count as the same weapon. A stand with no GPS position doesn't show a distance. Accessibility and ideal weapon are set in the stand's card (**Accessible (reduced mobility)**, **Ideal weapon (optional)** on mobile, **Ideal weapon** on the web). The hunter's weapon comes from their profile (**Main weapon**) or their card. On a placed hunter's row, an alert flags a stand that doesn't suit them: "Not an accessible stand" or "Ideal weapon: …". These markers are given as guidance: the decision to shoot rests with the shooter. ## The summary menu The ··· menu at the top right of the summary offers: - **Start the process over**: starts again from the drives of the day, with your choices already filled in. No hunter is removed, but the placement is no longer confirmed. - **Prepare the drives**: the drives of the day in detail (map, stands, name, instructions). - **View the drive map**, when every drive with a map shares the same one. - **Lines recap (PDF)**, when the day has lines or groups. - **Help**. - **Delete all**: removes every assignment and frees the lines, on every drive, after confirmation. Groups stay. ## Good to know - A hunter can't be on a stand and in the group holding a line of the same drive. The app flags it ("Hunter already placed") and offers to remove them from one of the two. A group's leader doesn't leave their group until another leader is appointed. - Only hunters who have confirmed their attendance are placed. - Each action is saved straight away, except the choice of drives of the day: it is saved when you tap the step button, **Continue with 2 drives** for example. - Available from version 4.2.9 of the app. In an older version, a "How to place hunters?" step is added and shooting lines don't appear. - The "Groups of the day" row on the summary reopens the groups screen whenever you need it. ## Troubleshooting - "I don't see Hunter placement in Manage": the hunt isn't linked to a hunting ground, or you are neither an organiser nor in charge of placement. - "I can't change the drives of the day": the hunt has started, has ended or been cancelled, or you only have the "Assign stands" right. - "Part of the distribution did not work. Check the summary.": a drive couldn't be filled, often because a free stand was missing. Place the remaining hunters by hand. - "The Notify the hunters button is greyed out": no hunter has a stand or a group yet. - "The placement could not be loaded. Check the connection and try again.": tap **Try again**. ## See also - [How do I organise the drives of a hunt?](article:how-do-i-organise-the-drives-of-a-hunt) - [How do I place shooting lines?](article:how-do-i-place-shooting-lines) - [How do I place stands?](article:how-do-i-place-stands) - [How do I get my stand by SMS or WhatsApp?](article:how-do-i-receive-my-stand-assignment-by-sms-or-whatsapp)
