A shooting line is a route on the map that a group of hunters holds together, with its leader. No one has a specific stand on it: the leader spaces their shooters out along the line, in the field. The same drive can have fixed stands and lines at the same time.
Drawing a line in a hunting ground drive requires the "Manage stands" right. Building the groups of the day, picking who holds a line, or drawing a line for the day only requires organising the hunt or holding the "Assign stands" right. The **Hunter placement** entry only appears for a hunt linked to a hunting ground.
On mobile, shooting lines are available from version 4.2.9 of the app.
## On mobile
### Draw a line in a hunting ground drive
1. Open the hunting ground, tap **Drives**, then the drive.
2. "Lines" section, tap **Draw a line**. The drive map opens in drawing mode.
3. Move the map to aim at the point with the reticle, then tap the **+** button to place it. Repeat for each point. **Undo point** removes the last point.
4. Tap **Finish drawing**. The button stays greyed out while the route has fewer than 2 points.
5. Fill in the "Shooting line" card, then tap **Save the line**.
6. Save the drive. Nothing is kept before that.
Then tap a line in the section to change its name, colour and spacing, or to delete it. The line menu also offers **Adjust the route**, **Rename**, **Move up** and **Move down**.
### Build the groups of the day
1. Open the hunt, tap **Manage**, then **Hunter placement**.
2. On the summary, tap the "Groups of the day" row. In the path, this step opens on its own when the day has at least one line or group.
3. Tap **+ Add a group**. Fill in the name, leader and colour, then **Save**.
4. To put a hunter in a group, tap **Group** on their row, or tap **Distribute the rest at random**.
### Pick who holds a line
1. Open the hunt, tap **Manage**, then **Hunter placement**, then the drive.
2. "Lines" section, tap **Change group** on the line.
3. In the sheet that opens, headed with the name of the line, tap a group, or **Leave the line empty**.
Another route: on the same screen, tap **View the drive map**, then a line on the map.
### Draw a line for the day only
1. Open the hunt, tap **Manage**, then **Hunter placement**, then the drive.
2. "Lines" section, tap **Draw a line**. This button only appears if the drive has a map.
3. Move the map to aim at the point with the reticle, then tap the **+** button to place it. Repeat for each point.
4. Tap **Finish drawing**.
5. In the card, fill in the name, colour and spacing, then tap **Save the line**.
On mobile, the route of a day's line can't be adjusted: to redo it, delete the line and draw it again.
### Edit or delete a day's line
1. Open the hunt, tap **Manage**, then **Hunter placement**, then the drive.
2. "Lines" section, tap the pencil to the right of the line.
3. Change the name, colour or spacing, then tap **Save the line**. To delete it, tap **Delete the line**, then **Delete** in "Delete this line?". The group holding it is released.
## On the web
### Draw a line in a hunting ground drive
1. Open your hunting ground, **Drives** menu, then the drive.
2. Under the stand list, "Lines" section, click **Draw a line**.

2. Under the stand list, "Lines" section, click **Change group** next to the line.
3. In "Who holds this line?", click a group, or click **Leave the line empty**.
Another route: click **View the drive map**, then a line on the map.
### Draw a line for the day only
1. **Groups** tab: when a group has no line in a drive, a notice says so ("No green line in Drive 2."). Click **Draw the green line for today**.
2. The drive map opens in the **2. Selection** tab with the colour already chosen. Place the points, click **Finish drawing**, then fill in the card.
Another route: **2. Selection** tab, "Lines" section, **Draw a line**.
### Adjust or delete a day's line
1. **2. Selection** tab, pick the drive's tab.
2. "Lines" section, click the line.
3. In the card, click **Adjust the route** to redo the route, or **Delete the line**. In "Delete this line?", click **Delete**. The group holding it is released.
## The "Shooting line" card
- **Line colour**: a colour is used only once per drive. Colours already taken are greyed out. Nine colours in total, so nine lines at most per drive.
- **Line name**: filled in by default ("Blue line") and editable. A ground landmark helps: "Low path", "North edge".
- **Shooter spacing**: 60 m by default, from 10 to 500 m. It is used to estimate the number of places.
- A route has at most 200 points, and a line name 80 characters at most.
The line then shows its size: "540 m · about 10 shooters", which is the length divided by the spacing, plus one shooter at the start. It helps when building groups.
A line drawn for the day only applies to this hunt. To keep it in the hunting ground, use **Copy back to "…"** or **Save as a hunting ground drive** ("Manage stands" right also needed); see [How do I organise the drives of a hunt?](article:how-do-i-organise-the-drives-of-a-hunt).
## The "Lines by colour" table
On the list of hunting ground drives (web and mobile), this table shows a row per drive and a column per colour in use. A filled cell gives the length and the number of shooters. On the web, an empty cell shows "To draw" and, with the "Manage stands" right, also offers **Draw**. On mobile, with this right, the empty cell only shows **Draw**; without it, it shows "To draw". **Draw** opens the drive in drawing mode with the colour already chosen.
## The rules between groups, lines and stands
- Colour makes the link: the blue group takes the blue line of each drive on its own, if it is empty.
- A group belongs to a hunt. The name, leader and colour are required. The leader becomes a member of their group; they have no extra rights in the app.
- Only hunters who have confirmed their attendance join a group. Each group shows its headcount against the need ("7 hunters · about 10 places"), in orange when more than 2 places apart.
- A group with no leader or no colour carries the note "To complete". Complete it before notifying the hunters.
- In a drive, a group holds at most one line, and a line takes at most one group. Picking a group already taken elsewhere ("already holds Red line") moves it.
- **Place the groups on their line** restores the colour-based assignment on the lines still empty.
- Deleting a line releases the group that was holding it.
- In the same drive, a hunter can't be on a stand and in the group holding a line. The app shows "Hunter already placed" and offers **Remove from their stand** or **Remove from the group**. The leader doesn't leave their group until another leader is appointed.
- Automatic stand distribution skips the hunters whose group holds a line in the drive.
## Notify the hunters
It uses the same send as for the stands, one for the whole day. Each placed hunter gets their place by email. Sending by SMS or WhatsApp depends on a Mes Chasses setting, not on your hunting ground: see [How do I get my stand by SMS or WhatsApp?](article:how-do-i-receive-my-stand-assignment-by-sms-or-whatsapp).
### Notify the hunters on mobile
1. Open the hunt, tap **Manage**, then **Hunter placement**.
2. On the summary, tap **Confirm the placement**. Nothing is sent yet.
3. Tap **Notify the hunters**. After the first send, the button becomes **Resend the stands to the hunters**.
### Notify the hunters on the web
1. Open the hunt, then **Stand management**, **3. Allocation** tab.
2. In the **Summary** panel, on the right, click **Send the stands**. The button is active when at least one hunter is placed.
### What each hunter gets
Drive by drive, they read "Stand 3 · Low Oak" or "Blue line (Low path) · John's group · leader John". If their group holds no line, they get a single entry "All day", with their group and leader. The **See my stand on the map** button opens their personal page, with no sign-in, and a route to the start of their line.
A hunter who declined the invitation or was removed from the hunt gets nothing.
## What the hunter sees
- On mobile: **My stand** tab of the hunt, with "My group" (members and leader), "My line" (one row per drive) then their stands.
- On the web: the "My stands" inset of the hunt's page.
- On the drive map, their line is thick and solid, the others are thinner, and lines without a group are dashed.
- On mobile, during the live hunt, the map shows the lines of the current drive, and a hunter's card shows their group, with "Group leader" for the leader. See [How do I start a live hunt?](article:how-do-i-start-a-live-hunt).
Lines, groups and places are given as guidance: the decision to shoot rests with the shooter.
## The lines recap (PDF)
A sheet to print, without a map image: the groups with their leader, members and weapon, then, drive by drive, the lines (colour, name, length, estimated shooters, group) and the stands.
### Open the recap on mobile
1. Open the hunt, tap **Manage**, then **Hunter placement**.
2. On the summary, tap the ··· menu, then **Lines recap (PDF)**. This entry only appears when the day has lines or groups.
### Open the recap on the web
1. Open the hunt, then **Stand management**, **3. Allocation** tab.
2. In the right column, under the **Summary** panel, click **Lines recap (PDF)**. This card only appears for someone who can organise the stands.
## Troubleshooting
- "All colours are already taken in this drive.": the drive has its nine lines. Delete one or change the colour of another.
- "Two lines of the drive have the same colour: one colour per line." or "Another group in the hunt already has this colour.": a colour is used only once per drive for lines, and once per hunt for groups. Pick another colour.
- "Place at least two points to draw a line.": this text appears during drawing, on mobile and on the web, while a point is still missing. Place a second one. The **Finish drawing** button (mobile and web) stays greyed out while this text is showing.
- "This route has reached the maximum number of points." (web): the route already has 200 points. Finish it.
- "This line's route is not valid. Draw it again." (mobile, when you tap **Finish drawing**): the route goes over 200 points or isn't valid. Draw it again with fewer points.
- "Two lines of the drive have the same name.": pick another line name.
- "My spacing changed on its own": a value outside 10 to 500 m is brought back to the nearest limit.
- "Pick a map for this drive first." (mobile): without a map, there is nowhere to draw. Pick a map in the drive's **Map** field.
- "This hunter is the leader of their group: pick another leader first.": appoint the new leader, then try again.
- "… is the leader of the group holding a line in Drive 1. Pick another leader before placing them on a stand." (mobile and web, when assigning a stand): the leader can't be placed on a stand while their group holds a line. Appoint another leader, then try again.
- "I don't see the lines on my phone": your app is older than version 4.2.9. Update it.
