How do I scan my hunting licence?

Last updated
Rather than copying your numbers by hand, photograph your document or import its PDF: Mes Chasses reads it and fills in your licence record. Review the result, then save. ## On mobile ### Scan a first document 1. **Account** tab, then **Licences**. 2. Tap **Scan my licence**, then **Scan a document**. 3. Choose **Take a photo**, **Choose an image** or **Import a PDF**. 4. On the preview, tap **Read the document**, or **Change** to try again. 5. The "Summary" screen opens. Review each block, correct with **Edit** if needed, then tap **Save my licence**. ### Complete an already-saved licence 1. **Account** tab, then **Licences**. 2. Under the "Validation" or "Insurance" heading, tap **Scan my validation** or **Scan my certificate**, depending on what is missing. 3. A "My validation" or "My insurance" screen opens. Tap the **Scan my validation** or **Scan my certificate** card. 4. Choose **Take a photo**, **Choose an image** or **Import a PDF**. 5. On the preview, tap **Read the document**. 6. Review the summary, then tap **Save my licence**. The **Scan my validation** link appears when no validation is saved, or when the screen shows "To renew" or "Validation ended". The **Scan my certificate** link appears when no certificate number is saved. Alternative path: tap the pencil icon at the top of "My licence", then **Scan a document to fill in faster**. ### Enter manually 1. **Account** tab, then **Licences**. 2. With no licence saved, tap **Enter manually**. With a licence saved, tap the pencil icon at the top of "My licence". 3. In the "Hunting licence" block, fill in **Country**, the **Issued on** date, **Licence number** and **Holder**. 4. To add a validation or insurance, tap **Add a validation** or **Add insurance**, then fill in the block. 5. Tap **Save my licence**. ## On the web ### Scan a first document 1. Click your name at the bottom of the menu ("My account"), then **Licence & validation**. In a narrow window, the entry is called **Licences**. 2. Click **Scan my licence**. 3. Drop your file in the "Drag and drop your PDF here" area, or click to browse. PDFs and images are accepted. 4. When "Analysis complete!" appears, check the confidence badge ("High confidence", "Medium confidence" or "Low confidence") and the document type detected (for example "Validation certificate"), then click **Continue**. A document the scan doesn't recognise always shows "Low confidence". 5. The "Here is what we read" summary lists what was read and what remains "To complete". Click **Save**, or **Edit** to correct. When a required field is missing (licence number, holder, validation or certificate number), the **Complete** button replaces **Save** and **Edit** disappears. Click **Complete**, fill in the missing field, then click **Save**. ### Complete an already-saved licence 1. Click your name at the bottom of the menu ("My account"), then **Licence & validation**. In a narrow window, the entry is called **Licences**. 2. In the "Validation" or "Insurance" block of the licence card, click **Scan my validation** or **Scan my certificate**, depending on what is missing. 3. Drop the file, then click **Continue**. 4. Click **Save**. When a required field is missing, the **Complete** button replaces **Save**: click it, fill in the missing field, then click **Save**. The **Scan my validation** link appears when no validation is saved, or when the validation has ended or ends in 30 days or less without a future validation. The **Scan my certificate** link appears when no insurance is saved. Alternative path: **Edit**, then **Scan a document**. ### Enter manually 1. Click your name at the bottom of the menu ("My account"), then **Licence & validation**. In a narrow window, the entry is called **Licences**. 2. With no licence saved, click **Enter manually**. With a licence saved, click **Edit**. 3. In the "Hunting licence" block, fill in **Country**, the **Issued on** date, **Licence no.** and **Holder**. 4. To add a validation or insurance, click **Add a validation** or **Add insurance**, then fill in the block. 5. Click **Save**. ## Good to know ### Which document to scan The most complete is the certificate received by email after paying the validation. It shows the licence, validation and often the insurance. The scan also recognises the validation certificate alone, the hunting liability insurance certificate, the letter that combines validation and insurance, the secure card licence, the old green licence, the white licence, and a hunting licence issued outside France. A photo works, a PDF gives more reliable reading. For a photo: document flat, good lighting, tight framing, no glare. - On the web, only the first page of a PDF is read. - On mobile, the entire PDF is sent. ### What the scan fills in, and what it leaves blank Depending on the document, it can read: - your name, and the printed address (visible in the scan summary, not shown afterwards in your licence); - the licence number, its issue date and its type (white, green or secure); - the IDGU, the validation certificate number, the extent (departmental or national), the duration (annual, 9 days or 3 days), the validation dates and the departments; - the insurer, the certificate number and the insurance end date, when it is printed. Each document only fills in what it contains. An insurance certificate doesn't touch your validation, a licence card doesn't touch your insurance. Only one rule fills a gap: the insurance end date. When, after the scan, the record has a certificate number or an insurer (read or already saved) but no end date, the insurance end date is set to 30 June of the current season, as with manual entry. This date never replaces an existing end date, whether printed on the certificate or already saved when the scan reads none. A date printed on a new certificate replaces one already saved. Without a certificate number or insurer (read or already saved), the insurance end date stays blank. Apart from this rule, the scan doesn't guess. Missing or unreadable information leaves the field blank: it doesn't default to "national", it doesn't infer a department from a number, it doesn't copy the validation end date into the insurance end date. This is deliberate: an empty field that you notice and complete is better than an incorrect one that nobody spots. ### Scanning multiple documents You can scan your documents one after another: the licence card, then the validation, then the insurance. Each scan adds to the record. - A field that the new scan doesn't find keeps its existing value: a scan never erases anything. - For the same validation, information found by the new scan replaces the old. - A validation certificate from another season, another extent or another duration doesn't replace the saved validation: it is added. The old one remains saved and moves to the licence history when it ends. - The name, address and licence number read from a validation or certificate only fill a still-empty field. They don't replace what comes from the licence card. - On the web, at the "Analysis complete!" screen, the **Scan another document** button abandons the displayed result and nothing is kept. To keep this scan, first click **Continue**, then scan the next document from the summary with **Scan my validation** or **Scan my certificate**. ### What manual entry requires - As soon as you fill in a validation, its **Validation no.** becomes required. Don't enter "0" or a made-up number. - For an annual validation, the current season is already selected. - As soon as you add insurance, its **Certificate number** becomes required. The **Insurer** stays optional. - There is no insurance end date to enter. The scan reads it when it is printed; otherwise the insurance is valid until the end of the current season, 30 June, whether scanned or entered manually. With manual entry, the form states this ("Insurance valid until 30/06/2027."). - The IDGU can't be entered: it is read during scanning, then kept. The **IDGU** field only appears if the saved value is malformed, so you can correct it. Don't have your validation certificate with you? Save the licence alone. It remains marked incomplete, and the managers of your hunting grounds see it as "Licence incomplete". Add the validation as soon as you have the certificate. For an armed guest you bring to a hunt, the documents remain optional as a whole. But what you fill in must be complete: a validation or insurance added requires its number. ### How long the scanned document is kept The image sent for reading, the reading result and the licence number read are erased after 30 days. Your saved licence isn't affected: it stays until you delete it. ### Three numbers not to confuse Nothing is saved until you confirm. The scan can misread a digit on a blurry photo or an old handwritten licence: compare the numbers with the paper before saving. - The licence number, written on the licence itself. - The IDGU, the 14 digits printed below the barcode on the validation certificate. You don't need to enter it. - The validation certificate number, the short number printed after "No." on the certificate. That is what the form asks for: the IDGU isn't accepted in its place. ### A licence issued outside France The scan also recognises a hunting licence issued outside France, and reads the country, the issuing authority, the number and the printed dates. Details are in [How do I register a licence issued outside France?](article:how-do-i-register-a-licence-issued-outside-france). ### If your validation is "to check" When the validation dates were filled in automatically during a Mes Chasses update, they aren't shown as a current validation. On mobile and on the web, the licence badge shows "Validation to check" and the period shows "To check". A text explains: "These dates were filled in automatically during a Mes Chasses update. Check them and add your validation number." Scan your validation certificate, or edit the licence manually. Details are in the article "Why is my validation 'to check'?". ## Troubleshooting - "Unable to read the document. Check the sharpness and try again." (mobile): the photo is blurry, dark or badly framed. Take it again, or import the PDF. - "Unable to read the document. Check the sharpness and try again." (mobile) even when the photo is sharp: this message also covers the scan limit. Wait a few minutes. - "Licence number not detected." (web): the document doesn't have one (an insurance certificate, for example) or it is unreadable. Enter it manually. On mobile, the relevant block shows "To complete" in the summary. - "The image is too large (Max 5 MB)." (web): the limit is 5 MB. Crop the photo or choose a lighter PDF. - "Document too large (5 MB max)." (mobile): the limit is 5 MB. Crop the photo or choose a lighter PDF. - "Scan limit reached. Please wait 5 minutes." (web): you have run too many scans in a row. Wait five minutes. - "My document is not recognised": enter your licence manually, all fields remain available. ## See also - [Who can see my hunting licence?](article:who-can-see-my-hunting-licence) - [How do I register a licence issued outside France?](article:how-do-i-register-a-licence-issued-outside-france) - [Why is my validation "to check"?](article:why-is-my-validation-to-check) - [How do I manage a member's licence?](article:how-do-i-manage-a-members-hunting-licence)
