A wounded animal ran off after the shot? Start a search from the app: the available blood tracking dog handlers closest to the shot location receive a notification.
To start a search, you must be organising the hunt or have the right to do so on the hunting ground. Any hunter can register as a blood tracking dog handler to receive alerts.
## On mobile
### Starting a search from the hunt page
Reserved for the hunt's organiser, the hunting ground's administrator or manager, and members with the **Edit all events** permission.
1. Open the hunt, tap **Manage**, then **Blood tracking** in the "Settings" section.
2. In the "Shot location & direction" section, tap **Set the shot location and escape route**. The map opens with a fixed cross in the centre.
3. "Centre the shot point" step: move the map to bring the cross onto the place where the animal was hit, then tap **Confirm the shot point**.
4. "Centre the flight direction" step: move the map in the direction the animal went. A line joins the shot location to the cross. Tap **Confirm the direction**. The direction then shows as a compass point and in degrees, for example "Escape direction: NE · 45°", and the button becomes **Edit the shot location and escape route**.
5. In the "Species" section, tap **Select a species…** and choose the wounded animal. This is the only required field.
6. In the "Time of shot" section, set the **Date** and the **Time**. The date can't be later than today.
7. In the "Description" section (optional), describe the point of impact, the animal's behaviour and the blood signs you saw.
8. Tap **Alert the handlers**. A message tells you how many handlers were alerted.
The **?** at the top of the screen opens help that explains the shot location, the flight direction and what happens next.
### Starting a search from the live hunt
Reserved for the hunt's organiser, the hunting ground's administrator or manager, and members with the **Edit all events** or **Run the live hunt** permission.
1. In the live hunt, tap a marker with the WOUNDED status on the map.
2. Tap **Blood tracking**. The screen opens with the species and the shot location (the marker's position) already filled in.
3. To add the flight direction, in the "Shot location & direction" section, tap **Set the shot location and escape route**. Tap **Confirm the shot point**, move the map in the direction the animal went, then tap **Confirm the direction**.
4. In the "Time of shot" section, set the **Date** and the **Time** if needed.
5. In the "Description" section (optional), describe the point of impact, the animal's behaviour and the blood signs you saw.
6. Tap **Alert the handlers**. A message tells you how many handlers were alerted.
If you only have the **Run the live hunt** permission, this is the only way: the hunt's **Manage** button isn't shown.
### Handler: making yourself available for alerts
1. **Account** tab, tap **My dogs**.
2. Tap the droplet icon at the top of the screen. The "Blood tracking dog handler" sheet opens.
3. Turn on **Available for alerts**.
4. Set your **Response radius** (from 10 to 200 km) and your **Contact phone number**.
5. In the "Base location" section, tap **Use my current location**. Allow location access if the phone asks. The message "Location saved" appears: this is the centre of your alert area.
6. Choose your **Departments covered** if needed.
7. Tap **Save**.
Without a base location, the section shows "No location" and "You won't receive any alerts.". If you turn on **Available for alerts** without a location, a warning appears, but you can still save. A location you have already saved is kept when you change the other fields: it only changes if you tap **Use my current location** again.
### Handler: accepting and following a search
1. Open the notification you received. The search shows with its map, its description and the time of the shot.
2. Tap **Accept the search**. The first handler who accepts takes charge of the search. A handler who accepts after them sees the "Search not accepted" alert: "This search has already been taken on by another handler."
3. While tracking, tap **Clue**. The "Add a clue" sheet opens.
4. Choose the type: Blood, Print, Cover, Resting place, Fork or Other. Add a note if needed, then tap **Place clue here** to mark your position.
5. Tap **Close**, choose **Animal found**, **Unsuccessful search** or **Search abandoned**, add a note and a photo if needed, then tap **Close**.
While the search is in progress, your position is recorded to trace your progress, even with the screen locked. The app tells you and asks for your consent before it starts.
## On the web
Blood tracking is only available in the mobile app.
## Good to know
- The search is followed on a map: shot location, flight direction, the handler's track and the clues placed, all updated as the search goes on.
- The search opens from the notification you received. There is no list of searches in the app.
- The search can still be viewed once closed, with its result and the photo if the handler added one.
### Who is alerted
No more than 3 handlers are alerted: those closest to the shot location who have registered as available and saved their base location, within 100 km or within their own response radius if it is larger. The radius is measured from the handler's base location.
With no shot location placed on the map, Mes Chasses starts from the hunt's meeting point, otherwise from the hunting ground's, otherwise from an approximate position in the centre of France. So place the shot location before you alert anyone.
## Troubleshooting
- "Search saved. No available handler was found nearby.": the search does exist, but no handler registered as available is within the radius. Contact a handler you know directly.
- "Alert not sent": the search is saved, but the alert didn't go out. Try again, or contact the handlers directly.
- "I don't see Blood tracking on the marker": the marker must have the WOUNDED status, and you must organise the hunt, be the hunting ground's administrator or manager, or have the **Edit all events** or **Run the live hunt** permission.
- "The Alert the handlers button doesn't respond": no species is chosen. Fill in the "Species" section.
- "I'm available but I don't receive any alerts" (handler): your profile has no base location. Open the "Blood tracking dog handler" sheet, tap **Use my current location**, then **Save**.
- "Search not accepted" (handler): another handler accepted before you. You don't need to do anything.
- "Search not found, or you don't have access." (handler): another handler took charge of the search, or you weren't alerted for it. Either way, you don't have access to it.
- "Location access denied" (handler): the app doesn't have access to your position. Tap **Open Settings** to allow it, then try again. You can save your profile without a location, but no alerts will reach you.
- "GPS tracking didn't start" (handler): your progress isn't being recorded. Check location permission in the phone's settings, then reopen the search screen.
