How do I start a live hunt?

Last updated
The live hunt follows the hunt in real time on the day: hunters' positions on the map, game reports, current drive and driven hunt status. You can only start and run it from the mobile app. The following people can start and run the hunt: the hunting ground's administrator, the managers, the hunt's creator and members with the "Edit all events" or "Run the live hunt" permission. They don't need to be registered for the hunt. ## On mobile ### Starting the hunt 1. On the day of the hunt, open it, **Information** tab. 2. In the "Ready to start" banner, tap **Start**. The live map opens. 3. Tap the purple button (control panel) on the side of the map. 4. In "Organiser controls", tap **Start the hunt**. Participants see the driven hunt start on their screen. No notification is sent to participants who haven't opened the live hunt. ### Starting the hunt from the hunt menu This entry appears for anyone who can edit the hunt, on the day of the hunt, as long as it hasn't started. 1. Open the hunt. 2. Tap the three-dot menu at the top of the page. 3. Tap **Start the live hunt**. The live map opens, but the hunt hasn't started yet. 4. Tap the purple button on the side of the map. 5. In "Organiser controls", tap **Start the hunt**. ### Joining the live hunt as a hunter 1. Open the hunt, **Information** tab. 2. In the "Driven hunt in progress" banner, tap **Join**. If the hunt is paused, the banner becomes "Driven hunt paused", with **Resume**. The banner only appears on the day of the hunt, once it has started, for participants whose attendance is confirmed or who have been marked present. People who run the hunt also see it, even if they aren't registered. Another way: on the day of the hunt, if it is your next hunt and your attendance is confirmed, the **Home** tab shows a "Live" banner with **Join**. It stays visible until the hunt has ended, even before it starts. ### Changing drive 1. On the live map, tap the purple button. The "Organiser controls" panel opens. 2. "Drive" section: tap the minus and plus buttons to change drive, or **Go to the next drive** to move forward one drive. The panel stays open. A hunt can have up to 5 drives. ### Pausing the hunt, then resuming it 1. On the live map, tap the purple button. 2. "Hunt status" section, tap **Pause**. The panel closes and the driven hunt is paused. 3. To restart, tap the purple button again. 4. Tap **Resume**. The panel closes. ### Ending the hunt 1. On the live map, tap the purple button. 2. Tap **End**, then **Confirm?** within 2 seconds. The panel closes and the hunt has ended. ### Reopening an ended hunt 1. On the live map, tap the purple button. 2. Tap **Reopen the hunt**. The panel closes and the hunt starts again. ## On the web You can't start or run the live hunt on the web. You can prepare the live map there: You need to be able to edit the hunt. 1. Open the hunt, then click **Manage the event**. 2. Click **Interactive maps**. 3. On the map you want, turn on **Publish live**. A "LIVE MAP" badge marks the published map. In the map editor, the **Publish live** button also publishes the map to the live hunt. When the map is already published, it offers to remove it from the live hunt. ## What the live hunt shows - The current drive, at the top of the screen and in a phone notification, for example "Drive 2 · Plaine in progress". The notification sounds again when the status or the drive changes. It appears if you have allowed the app's notifications, and it disappears when you leave the live screen. - The hunters on the map. A hunter stays visible with their last known position, even if their phone stops sending anything (GPS off, network lost). As long as their phone is still reporting, they are "Online". When it hasn't for a few minutes, their marker is greyed out. When you tap their marker, you see "Offline" and how old the last position is, for example "12 min ago". The **Participants** tab also shows "Online" or "Offline" under their name. - The stands of the current drive: dark green when a hunter is placed there, light green when the stand is free, and grey for the others. Stands are visible to the hunting ground's administrator, the managers and members with the "View stands" permission. - The shooting lines of the current drive. To hide them, tap **Layers** on the side of the map, then turn off **Stands**: the lines are hidden with the stands. - The icons at the bottom of the map (**Activity**, **Participants**, **Info** and **Weather**) open the live sheet. It has six tabs: **Activity**, **Participants**, **Stands**, **Info**, **Stats** and **Weather**. - In the **Info** tab of the live sheet, you see the instructions for the current drive, when there are any. - When the hunt has groups, the **Participants** tab shows a badge under each hunter's name, in their group's colour. - In the **Stands** tab, whoever places the hunters can put a confirmed hunter on a free stand in the current drive. ## Good to know - During a pause, the live map shows the "Driven hunt paused" banner with "Temporary interruption. Stay at your stand.". When the hunt has ended, it shows "Driven hunt ended" with "End of the hunt. Unload your weapons.". - Positions are for guidance only. The decision to shoot remains the shooter's. - Positions and reports are visible to confirmed or present participants, and to the people who run the hunt. From the **Activity** tab, only the people who run the hunt see the **Add a report** button. Participants report with the green **+** button at the bottom of the map. - Your phone sends its position every 5 to 30 seconds depending on the GPS setting. To change it, tap the GPS signal bars at the top of the live screen, then choose **Automatic**, **Power saving**, **Balanced** or **High accuracy**. In Automatic mode, the phone sends it every 30 seconds during a driven hunt. - Even with your phone locked, or left still at your stand, you stay visible as long as you are taking part in the live hunt. - With no network, the phone keeps your positions and sends them when the network comes back, for up to 7 days. - A hunt left running by mistake ends by itself at 23:59. - Positions are deleted 30 days after the end of the hunt. - To report an animal and attach a tag during the live hunt, see the dedicated article below. ## If something goes wrong - "I don't see the Ready to start banner": it only appears on the day of the hunt, to someone who can run it, as long as the hunt isn't cancelled, not over and not already started. - "I don't have the purple button on the map": the control panel is reserved for people who can run the hunt. Ask one of them to start the driven hunt. - "I don't see Join": on the hunt page, the banner only appears if all these conditions are met. - It is the day of the hunt. - The hunt has started. - The hunt is neither cancelled nor over. - Your attendance is confirmed, or you have been marked present. - "I don't see Join" (**Home** tab): the "Live" banner appears on the day of the hunt, even before it starts, if it is your next hunt and your attendance is confirmed. - "The hunt has ended. Reopen it to change drive.": tap the purple button, then **Reopen the hunt**. - "A hunter is greyed out on the map": their phone hasn't sent a position for a few minutes. The map keeps their last known position, for guidance only. The marker gets its colour back as soon as the phone sends its position again. - "My phone no longer shows when the screen is locked": allow background location in the phone's settings. - "Location access denied. Mes Chasses doesn't have access to your location. Allow it in your phone's Settings.": the phone refuses access to your position. The message says what it is used for (for example "It is used to show you on the map."). Tap **Open Settings**, allow location access, then come back to the app. Tap **Later** to close the message without changing anything. ## See also - [How do I follow the hunt on the iPhone Lock Screen?](article:how-do-i-follow-the-hunt-from-the-iphone-lock-screen) - [How do I report game and attach a tag?](article:how-do-i-report-game-and-attach-a-tag) - [How do I organise a hunt's drives?](article:how-do-i-organise-the-drives-of-a-hunt) - [How do I place shooting lines?](article:how-do-i-place-shooting-lines) - [How do I use a hunt page?](article:how-do-i-use-a-hunts-page)
