The safety scanner lists the sensitive features around your position during a live hunt: dwellings, farm buildings, roads, railways, power lines, tracks. It is for guidance only, to help you get your bearings; the decision to shoot remains the shooter's.
All participants in the live hunt can use it. This feature is only available in the mobile app.
## On mobile
### Running a scan
1. In the live hunt, tap the radar icon in the column of buttons on the right of the map. The "Safety scanner" sheet opens.
2. If a scan is already saved for this hunt, the sheet opens on its results: tap **Scan again** to go back to the radius setting.
3. Set the **Scan radius** by dragging the slider, from 50 m to 2 km. It starts at 300 m. The **?** next to "Scan radius" explains how to choose the radius.
4. Tap **Scan**. Your GPS position must be active, otherwise the button stays inactive.
5. During the scan, "Scanning…" appears. **Cancel** stops the scan. If the service being queried is slow, a message shows the current attempt, out of 3 at most.
### Reading the results
1. The sheet title becomes, for example, "7 obstacles detected".
2. Features are grouped by type, with their number, for example "3 Dwellings". The highest-risk types come first.
3. Tap a type to expand it. Each feature shows its distance and direction, for example "120 m · NE".
4. Tap a feature to centre the map on it.
If there is nothing within the radius, the sheet shows "No sensitive element detected within this radius.".
### Running a scan again or clearing it
- **Scan again** takes you back to the radius setting. The previous results stay visible until the next scan.
- **Clear** deletes the scan from the device and clears it from the map.
### Showing or hiding the features found on the map
1. In the live hunt, tap the layers icon, just above the radar icon, in the column of buttons on the right of the map. The "Layers" sheet opens.
2. Find the **Safety scanner** row.
3. Tap the switch on that row to turn it on or off.
When the layer is off, the features found disappear from the map. The scan stays saved and its list stays visible in the "Safety scanner" sheet.
## On the web
The safety scanner is only available in the mobile app.
## Good to know
- The radius circle appears on the live map while the "Safety scanner" sheet is open. It disappears when you close it.
- The features found stay on the map, even with the sheet closed, as long as the **Safety scanner** layer is on. It is on by default.
- The scan is saved on your phone, for this hunt. When you reopen the live hunt, you find it as it was. A red dot on the radar icon shows that a scan is saved.
- Only you can see the result. It isn't shared with the organiser or with the other participants.
- The features come from OpenStreetMap, a collaborative database that may be incomplete or out of date. The scan helps you get your bearings and doesn't replace your own reconnaissance of the ground.
## Troubleshooting
- "GPS position unavailable": the scanner needs your position. Turn GPS back on from the live hunt's column of buttons, then reopen the scanner.
- "Scan failed": the scan needs a connection. Check your network and tap **Scan** again.
- "I no longer see the features on the map": the **Safety scanner** layer may be off. Turn it on from the "Layers" sheet.
- "The scan doesn't come back after switching hunts": each scan is linked to a specific hunt and to the phone that ran it. Reopen the hunt in question on the same phone, or run a new scan.
