Four roles define what each person can see and do on a hunting ground, from the broadest to the most restricted. The two lower roles, Syndicate member and Member, are adjusted permission by permission.
Only the administrator and manager can change permissions.
## On mobile
### Adjusting permissions for a role
1. **Hunting grounds** tab, open the hunting ground.
2. Under "Administration", tap **Permissions**.
3. Tap **Syndicate members** or **Members** to choose the role to adjust. A counter shows the number of active permissions for that role.
4. Turn permissions on or off, grouped by category.
5. Tap **Save changes**.
Tap **Who can do what?** to see the comparison table of the four roles. **Reset this role** restores the defaults for the displayed role, after confirmation; then save to apply.
### Giving the manager role to a member
Reserved for the administrator and manager. The person must have a Mes Chasses account linked to their record, and must not be the hunting ground's administrator.
1. **Hunting grounds** tab, open the hunting ground.
2. Under "Administration", tap **Members**.
3. Tap the person's record.
4. Tap the pencil icon at the top of the record. The "Edit" screen opens.
5. Under **Access level**, tap **Manager**.
## On the web
### Adjusting permissions for a role
1. **Hunting grounds** menu, open your hunting ground.
2. **Members** tab, then the **Access levels** sub-tab.
3. The table shows one row per permission and one column per role. The Administrator and Manager columns are fixed; tick or untick the boxes in the Syndicate member and Member columns.
4. Click **Save**, in the "Unsaved changes" bar that appears after your first change.
**Reset** restores the defaults for the Syndicate member and Member roles in the table, after confirmation. Then click **Save** to apply: without this, nothing is saved.
### Giving the manager role to a member
Reserved for the administrator and manager. The person must have a Mes Chasses account linked to their record, and must not be the hunting ground's administrator.
1. **Hunting grounds** menu, open your hunting ground.
2. **Members** tab, click the person's record.
3. Under "Access & permissions", choose **Manager** from the **Access level** list.
## Good to know
- Changes take effect as soon as they are saved.
- The **Invite outside guests** permission allows adding guests to a hunt. The **Invite members** permission allows inviting people into the hunting ground's team.
- The "View the team" permission gives access to the member list. On the web, "Invite members" also opens this tab.
- Editing the IBAN can be granted to a syndicate member or a member through the **Manage the treasury** permission. The manager, however, can't receive it.
- Membership fees are turned on or off by the administrator or manager. The **Manage membership fees** permission allows recording payments, not turning the feature off.
- The **Send communications** permission, under the "Hunting ground settings" category, allows writing a message to the hunting ground's members: see [How do I send a message to the members of my hunting ground?](article:how-do-i-send-a-message-to-the-members-of-my-hunting-ground).
### The four roles
- **Administrator**: full control of the hunting ground, the subscription and the permissions. They alone can delete the hunting ground and propose the ownership transfer.
- **Manager**: can manage everything except deleting the hunting ground, managing the subscription and transferring the administration. They also can't edit the hunting ground's IBAN.
- **Syndicate member**: advanced role, adjustable. By default, they create hunts, invite outside guests, view the team, the stands and the harvest plan.
- **Member**: standard role, adjustable. By default, they see the hunting ground information and the hunts, and take part in hunts.
The administrator and manager always have all permissions: their boxes can't be unticked.
### What the syndicate member and member have by default
A syndicate member sees the hunting ground information, the team, the stands, the harvest plan and all hunts. They can create a hunt, take part and invite outside guests.
A member sees the hunting ground information, the stands and all hunts, and takes part in them. Everything else is turned off until you turn it on.
Adjusting permissions, removing members and managing the member list remain reserved for the administrator and managers: these actions can't be delegated. Only invitation can be delegated, through the **Invite members** permission: the person invites at the Member role and can share the hunting ground access code.
### The permission categories
Permissions are grouped by category. The 14 categories are the same on mobile and on the web, in a slightly different order: Hunting ground management, Event management, Participation, Stands & mapping, Maps, Hunting teams, Treasury, Membership fees, Messages, Live, Statistics, Data & budget, Documents, Hunting ground settings.
The **Manage the meeting point** and **Manage the boundary** permissions are in the "Hunting ground settings" category. On mobile, they are available from version 4.2.8 of the app; in an earlier version, they can be adjusted on the web.
## Troubleshooting
- "I cannot see Permissions or Access levels": only the administrator and manager can adjust permissions. A member can't raise their own rights.
- "A permission does not seem to have any effect": check that it is turned on for the right role, and that the person actually has that role on their record.
- "I would like a member to manage other members": managing the member list, removing and changing roles can't be delegated. To allow inviting only, grant them the **Invite members** permission. To let them manage the team, give them the manager role: the steps are in "On mobile" or "On the web", under "Giving the manager role to a member".
- "I cannot see Access level on a member's record": the list only appears for a person who has a Mes Chasses account linked to their record, and never for the hunting ground's administrator. On mobile, it is found under **Edit**, not on the record itself.
