Member, participant, guest without an account: these three terms describe different situations in Mes Chasses. Telling them apart answers most of the "why can't they see the hunt?" questions.
## Member
Someone who belongs to a hunting ground. With a Mes Chasses account, they can see the hunting ground and its published hunts, depending on their role: administrator, manager, syndicate member or member.
Every member, with or without an account, appears in the hunting ground's member list, with their documents, their membership fee and their role on the committee. Only the administrator and the managers can open this full list and add, edit or remove records. A syndicate member or a member with the **View the team** permission only sees the list of members who have an account.
## Participant
Someone who is registered for a hunt. Their response is "Pending", "Confirmed" or "Declined". On the day, they can be marked "Present" or "Absent".
A participant responds to the invitation, pays the participation fee if there is one, and sees the hunt's information. They aren't necessarily a member of the hunting ground: an outside hunter invited to a driven hunt is a participant without being a member.
## Guest without an account
Someone who received an invitation link to a hunt and doesn't yet have an account. They open the hunt preview in their browser, respond and pay online. They may be outside the hunting ground, or be a member without an account (a record in the member list). They become a participant in the hunt once they are registered: their response is "Pending" until they respond, then "Confirmed" when they accept through the link.
## Armed or unarmed guest: another case
Not to be confused with a guest without an account. An armed or unarmed guest is someone added to a hunt without being registered in their own name. Either a participant who is a member of the hunting ground brings them to a hunt where they have confirmed their attendance, within their guest quota: the guest is then tied to their host, who manages them from the "My guests" section of the hunt. Or the hunt's organising team adds them, even when **Guests allowed** is turned off and beyond the host's quota: the guest is then tied to a host (the organiser themselves if they are registered for the hunt, or the chosen participant), or without a host if the organiser isn't registered.
## Common confusions
- A member isn't automatically a participant. They become one when they respond to the hunt: on invitation, or on their own from the hunt page.
- A participant may be an outside person, with no link to the hunting ground.
- A member without an account appears in the member list but can't sign in. For them to see the hunts, invite them to create their account.
## Who sees what
- A member with an account can see the hunting ground and its published hunts, according to their role's permissions.
- A participant sees the hunt they are registered for, even if they aren't a member of the hunting ground.
- A guest without an account only sees the hunt preview, through their link.
- A draft hunt doesn't appear in their hunts until it is published. Its creator, the administrator and the managers can still find it.
